Delphic Brewing Company began life in 2017 when founder‑brewer Tom Broadbank started experimenting with small‑batch recipes on a 50L homebrew system in a Thatcham garage, just outside Newbury. At the time, Tom was holding down a full time job at a large local brewery and the beers made in the garage were nothing more than a way of expressing creativity and experimenting with new recipes. Still, these beers needed a name and a 'deliberately obscure' one was used - 'Delphic'.

The project soon outgrew hobby status, in May 2019 he secured a commercial brewing licence, squeezing a 500L kit into that same double garage. Those first commercial releases—a classic best bitter, hop‑forward pale ales and a silky milk stout—appeared in both cask and keg around West Berkshire.

It was all going so well... then Covid-19. The brewery was quick to adapt to the new normal. Tom launched an online shop, starting off door-step drops of fresh cask ale, packed into 5L containers. The brewery launched it's first small pack beers, bottles and cans, mini-kegs and merchandise, continuing to grow. More fermentation tanks were added to an already cramped garage brewery.

As the world slowly returned to normal, pub and bar trade resumed, and Tom was able to take the brewery's wares out on the road. Popping up all over at regular markets, shows, festivals and events.

Over the next 4 years, the garage brewery was filled with so many tanks that a move to a larger premises was really needed. And so the search began...

The Move...

A new space was found. Well we say new. It's was a mid-20th century building, originally an agricultural engineers, then a snooker hall and most recently a branch of 'Motorist Discount Centre' - aftermarket car part shop. Oh, and it had been sat derelict for 5 years. But the location was incredible! Right in the heart of Newbury, 3 minutes walk from Newbury Station, 2 minutes walk from the Town Centre, less than 5 miles from the original brewery. A perfect spot for us to not only have more space to brew, but to open an on-site Taproom and welcome guests in.

But the building was in a sorry state and in dire need of renovation. With a plan in place, we set to work and 6 months, 13 skips and around a million tins of paint later....

We opened the doors to Delphic Brewing Company Taproom, Mayors Lane, Newbury on 6th July 2024. We installed a brand new brew-kit a few weeks later, which is viewable from the taproom area (shiny)! We are still a very small batch brewery, meaning we have lots of seasonal releases and specials for you to try.

We brew a broad range of styles, both traditional ales and innovative craft beers. Check out our online shop to see our current availability.

The taproom is a fantastic community space and we welcome a diverse range of people who all share a love of great beer. We regularly collaborate with local street food vendors and host community events.

Check out our Taproom page for more information and opening hours. We hope to see you at the bar very soon!

Our taproom is the best place to enjoy our beers, fresh from the source.

Located directly next to the brew-kit, our taproom offers 3 cask and 10 keg beers.

The lineup is an ever changing mix of the beers that we brew on site, and guest lines from our other brewers. You’ll always find a broad range of styles, including Lagers, Pales, IPAs, Gluten Free, Sours, Stouts, Cider and Stouts - changing on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.

We regularly collaborate with local food vendors to have a variety of on-site street food to wash down with a fresh cold pint.

If you’d like to request a certain vendor, or are a vendor yourself and want to work with us, be sure to reach out!

We have space inside for around 70 seated and another 40 outside (weather permitting) and fully wheelchair accessible.

We occasionally are able to accomodate private events, send us an email on sales@delphicbrewing.com to enquire!
